Our Values & Objectives

Eco Conscious

We are supporters of environmentally friendly endings. It’s what we plan for our own funerals (woodland burials, composting, shrouds, natural materials), and we aim to raise awareness about the ecological impact of society’s choices in death.

DEAD GOOD don’t want to produce resources or products that contradict our eco values. We use like-minded local producers (such as www.marctheprinters.co.uk) to make our merch, and only print on demand as and when we need stock. We choose recycled, recyclable, plastic-free, animal-free, organic whenever and wherever we can.

Authentic

We bring our individual personalities, passions, knowledge, skills, imagination, and inevitable quirks to this work. We use a combination of our lived experience and research & scholarship to inform our approach, and to show you examples of what working with us will look like. We will always be honest and open.

Inclusive

As feminists we want to welcome and connect with kindred folx. We are both neurodivergent individuals and will show up authentically and respectfully in our work. We will hold a safe space for everyone who would like to work with us. We work to promote equitable access to death positive resources and discussion. We are committed to our own learning and acknowledging our privilege.

Creative

Our lightbulb moment happened watching Grayson Perry’s Rites of Passage in 2018. DEAD GOOD was born out of a brand new (for us) way of doing death. When our Dad was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2021 our whole family barrelled headlong into making the most of the time we had left together through a series of creative legacy projects. We want to bring the same curiosity and imagination to our work here and to the people we work with.

Playful

It is important for us that we continue to enjoy what we do. Our visual branding is quirky and irreverent to signal to our audience that we have a fresh approach. We want to create experiences that are memorable, fun and playful. Let’s do something extraordinary together. We’re not for everyone but we’re just right for you!

Community

DEAD GOOD is more than a website. We are a lively social enterprise that is part of a growing community around the world. We want to be a hub of education, discussion, campaigning, support and change. We want to empower people to plan for their deaths, to talk about dying and to normalise it as a human experience. We’re ready. Are you?

Social Objectives

Alleviate funeral poverty by advocating for affordable and accessible funeral options, ensuring that financial constraints do not impede families from honouring their person with dignity and respect.

Promote inclusivity and equity by increasing access to death and dying resources for marginalised communities, fostering a supportive environment for end-of-life discussions and decision-making.

Raise awareness and advocate for sustainable endings and eco-friendly practices, encouraging individuals and communities to embrace environmentally conscious choices in end-of-life planning and funeral practices.

Empower individuals and communities by decreasing fear and worry around death and dying through comprehensive death education, compassionate support, and open conversations, fostering a positive and informed approach to acknowledging mortality.

Amplify the voices and perspectives of marginalised and under represented groups within the death care community, advocating for equitable representation and inclusive practices to ensure that all end-of-life needs are recognised and respected.

Promote the benefits of end-of-life preparation by encouraging proactive planning, fostering open dialogues, and providing accessible and affordable resources, empowering individuals to make informed decisions about their end of life wishes and how to record them.
